Classes

We had an amazingly fun day Saturday.  We got to visit with lots of people we haven't seen in a while.  The Make 'n Take was a huge success.  Here's a "phone" photo of it.

  

We used a variety of dies and a stamp from My Favorite Things. The background colors are Distress Inks.

SUMMER SWAP: We also began giving out templates for our Summer "Fishy" swap.  If you would like to participate, come by for a set of templates.

Canvas Collage

As always, Lisa creates some of the most beautiful canvases.  You will enjoy creating this beautiful vintage project using a variety of Tim Holtz products.

REMEMBER you are responsible for bringing a kit of basic supplies to every class.  If you are new and need help, give us a call and we'll help you get it together.

CLASS FEES are due at the time of enrollment.  Cash or checks are accepted and Lisa is now able to send Paypal invoices if you are unable to pay your fees in person.  Credit cards may be used IF Lisa is in store to process them.

CANCELLATION POLICY:  Refunds or credit will be issued for cancellations received 2 full days prior to class.  You must email Lisa or call the store during business hours.  IF you are unable to attend for any reason, you may gift or sell your class to a friend.

In case you didn't know, Dina Wakley is one of my all time favorite artists and I am always happy when she comes for a visit and to teach.  She was one of the first artists I asked to come to Oklahoma when I was learning to be brave.  You see, they can't come if you don't ask.  I still have to screw up my courage when I ask someone new to teach, but I'm getting better.  Didn't you have loads of fun when I got brave enough to ask Joanne Sharpe?  I know I did...

Conquering Color

This is part of Dina's new Art Journal Play Series which are about exploring and playing with art journaling techniques.  Do you have trouble deciding which colors to use together?  Join Dina as you conquer color!  You will make color charts with your paints and then you will practice specific color schemes.  You'll play with split-complementary, triadic, analogous with complement, just to name a few.  Dina will show you how to take each color scheme and make a vibrant page with it.  She will give you tips and techniques for managing color and using contrast effectively.  You'll mix ink and acrylics to give interesting layers and color effects.  

Supplies you need to bring:  Basic Class Kit, Art Journal (Dylusions  recommended), Gesso, Gel medium (DW Media recommended), Acrylic Paints, Rubber stamps, Black Archival Ink Pad, journaling pens.  Optional supplies:  ink sprays and stencils

Dina has taught this one here before, but I still get requests for face art classes.  Dina says you CAN draw faces!  She taught herself to do it and she will teach you too.  Using easy tips, tricks and the "magic" pencil you will make artsy and interesting faces.  She'll also show you how to paint the faces with artistic, fun colors. 
Supplies you need to bring: Basic Class Kit, White gesso, Acrylic paints (must include Titanium White & a dark color for shadows such as raw umber or Payne's grey.  DW Media recommended - Night subs well for Payne's grey), Gel medium (matte - DW Media recommended), Small flat & small round paint brush (Claudine Helmuth assortment recommended).

Another Art Journal Class, Dina will teach you to create art journal pages that represent strength and positive thought.  You will use Dina's new rubber stamp sets and stencils to create pages that are both beautiful and meaningful.  Dina will teach you about composition and creating pages from the bottom layer up.  Come and play with dina's stamps and stencils and have lots of fun!

Supplies you need to bring:  Basic Class Kit, art journal (Dylusions recommended), white acrylic gesso, Gel Medium (soft preferred such as DM Media Gel Medium), Acrylic paint (your favorite colors, include white, a dark neutral and a red/pink and a yellow), Plastic palette knife, paintbrushes, Black Archival ink pad.  Optional: ink sprays and stencils.

Beyond the Ink Pad

Another in the Art Journal Play series, this class explores one of our favorite additions, rubber stamps.   You will go beyond the ink pad and use stamps with Pan Pastels, acrylic paints, crayons, gelatos and more.  Dina will show you techniques for creating and then you will build finished pages on top of your stamping - that means you'll consider color, composition and layers as you finish your work.

Supplies you need to bring:  Basic Class Kit, art journal (Dylusions recommended), Gesso, Gel Medium (soft preferred - DM Media), acrylic paints, rubber stamps - bring your muses, Archival Black ink pad, journaling pens.  Optional:  PanPastels, Gelatos, watercolor crayons, ink sprays and stencils.

ENROLLMENT DETAILS:

BASIC CLASS KIT DETAILS  Please be sure you have the following items in your basic kit.  Non-stick craft sheet, paint bushes, rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, water container to clean your brushes, scraper (Ranger or old plastic gift/hotel key card), palette paper or plastic plate to use as a palette (craft sheet will also work).

JOIN US for one or all of these wonderful classes.  If you have never taken a class from Dina before, now is the time.  You will have a wonderful, relaxed time and you will add a whole new set of techniques to your artistic arsenal.

So many new things on order..... Here are just a few that have arrived....

Pearl and Paper Pens by Viva Decor.  Someone asked, we ordered!  Really great for decorating all kinds of projects.  Makes a pearl of any size.  Pearly or Matte.  You choose!

Ooooh!  Cute washi tape...  My two favorite things are in this package.....  orange and butterflies.  Can't miss!  Better get yours before I get'em!

Wendy Vecchi Stencils for Art!  Who knew?  I didn't, but now I do.....  you can too (I just couldn't resist the stupid rhyme - LOL)  Really, these are nice.  Heart stencil has both parts (the inny and the outy)...

I know.....  Christmas already?  It was on order.... can't predict the shipment so here it is.....  Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage 6x6 paper pad.  There are other parts to this collection.  And they will arrive before Christmas!

The UPS man just dropped off a box of Crafter's Workshop templates.  Yup!  The new Dina Wakley ones are there - 12 x 12 and 6 x 6.  You know they are extremely kewl!

AND we got a new line of stamps in the mail today.  Pink Persimmon!  Cute clear sets - very vintage.

Dina Wakley's Challenge

Out  of  the  Journal

Weekly Challenge

Last week, Dina Wakley challenged her blog readers to join her in an exercise called Out of the Journal.  The challenge started this week.  You create one canvas each week during the month of August.  You can find the simple details on Dina's blog, Ponderings.  I think it is a fun idea and I have decided to play along.....  here is my Out of the Journal "canvas" for week number one.

Ok, so my canvas looks a little deep..... I had a "Luna" bar box lying around so I covered it in gesso and let the fun begin.....  It's pretty simple, but I like it.  The colors are yummy.  Here are a couple of other view.....

It's a small box....  came filled with only 6 small energy bars.  It's quite small.....

Supplies used:  Dina Wakley Grungy Silhouette stamp, Black Archival ink pad, Claudine Helmuth Studio Gesso & Paints in Modern Red, Altered Orange, Dab of Yellow & Classic Teal, Crafter's Workshop 6" templates, Dylusions numbers stamp from the Basic Backgrounds set and although it is hard to see, there is 7 Gypsies paper tape all around the edges underneath the paint.

It was fun to try something new.  Why don't you join in?  I'm pretty sure you can start with next week, or even play catchup if you want!  I'm already looking ahead to next week!

The Project of the month and the Cardstock of the month really rock for summer.  Reminescent of a trip to Hawaii and the beach!  Got two really cute new dies too..... one is a little string of pennants and one is a little string of lanterns!  Way too cute!

We got the stamps in earlier (already sold out of the butterflies, but reordering asap).  She has stencils made by Crafter's Workshop to match.  Here is Julie explaining how to use them together....

ARTSY WEEKEND UPDATE

Movin' a little slow this week.... BUT it's time to publish that class list as promised.....  These are the classes.  You can start signing up tomorrow by calling or emailing.

All classes are approximately 3 hours long.  You should bring your basic kit to most classes and there will be a limited number of additional supplies required (seriously, minimal).

DYING FOR DYLUSIONS ..... $45
Friday, July 13 ... 4pm to 7pm

Are you ready for some serious FUN!  Learn how to use spray inks by making this joyful, inky tag book using Dylusions ink sprays and stamps.  Dina will show you five techniques to use with the ink sprays (stenciling, wet on wet, ghosting, oil resist, and gesso resist).  What's exciting is you'll make and fold the book structure from just one sheet of paper.  Then you'll use fun and funky Dylusions stamps to decorate your book.  It's a colorful exlosion of joy!

ENCAUSTIC TAG BOOK, "Dear Self" ..... $50
Sat, July 14 ... 10am to 1pm

Come and learn about the ancient art of encaustics.  We'll be using beeswax and irons to make fun and addicting beeswax collages.  We'll play with stamps, inks, acrylic paint, beeswax..... oh my!  We'll add positive quotes to make the book a wonderful message of hope and encouragement. The tags will go in an accordion book structure that Dina will show you how to create.  Beeswax is fun and addictive..... come and play!

INTRODUCTION TO ART JOURNALING ..... $50

Have you been curious about art journaling, but are not sure where to start?  Come and play with Dina!  We'll explore what art journaling is and she will teach you techniques for creating fun and expressive pages.  We'll create backgrounds, image layers, and top texture.  We'll make several pages and you'll get a feel for playing, experimenting, and being free with your art.  Dina also will give you some tips for page topics and writing on your pages.  No previous art experience is required.

CHUNKY BACKGROUND TECHNIQUES BOOK ..... $50
Sun, July 15 ... 10am to 1pm

Join Dina for a celebration of background techniques!  We'll start by creating five backgrounds with different techniques -- scraping and lifting, monoprinting with plastic, modeling paste and stencils, watercoloring with spray ink, and gesso with masking tape ... so fun!  Then we'll cut down the backgrounds and bind them into a chunky little book.  You can use your book as a little art journal, a scrapbook, a book of quotes... the sky's the limit. 

As you can see.... these classes are fun and exciting. We have all the samples here for you to look at...  I hope you'll join us for as many as you can.  You will be so glad you do.

Summer Seasonal Distress Inks

I just said to someone the other day (forgive me, I can't remember who I was talking with) that I was pretty sure Tim Holtz would release one more Limited Edition Seasonal Distress Ink Pad Set....  No sooner said than done!  Looks like the colors are going to be really nice! 

The colors are Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, & Salty Ocean.....  sounds delightful.  We ordered a good number of them and looks like they will ship out immediately.  If you would like to have a set reserved, please call or email.  We should have plenty. 

ARTSY WEEKEND UPDATE

Christy Tomlinson by Pink Paislee.  It's sold out and Pink Paislee isn't going to reprint.  We got the last little bit our distributor had.  When it's gone, it's gone.  Be sure you get yours before that happens!

Great selection of "How to" Art books.  There are some new ones you will want that will help you spread your artistic wings!  I know I need the help.....

Ok, so these things aren't new - they're old.  Old enough to be on sale that is!  Added a whole new batch of things to the sale area in the back part of the classroom.  If you are a bargain hunter, this is the place for you.

We got some more new stuff this morning.  I'll tell ya about all that tomorrow, but for now here's an update on...
