Ranger Journal Page Lesson

Scarlton Mini Art Journal Workshop
Saturday, March 10
10 am to 12 pm

Samantha Carlton is a local artist I have become acquainted with through the store and she was recently selected as a Ranger blog contributor featuring Dina Wakley products.  She and I were talking and we decided it would be fun for her to "teach" her 1st Art Journal contribution.

A little bit about Scarlton.....

I'm Samantha Carlton, know as Scarlyton in the art world.  I am a mixed media artist and art journalist working out of my home studio.  I create what I call "intuitive abstract art" because it allows me to step aside from critical thinking and paint from a place of mindfulness.  During the day I'm a licensed therapist and I enjoy teaching, creating and reading.  My work may be viewed on the Ranger Ink Blog and through Instagram (@scarlyton).  It can also be purchased directly through my social media channels.

A description of the workshop.....

Keeping an art journal can be a great way to express emotions, thoughts and creativity.  Art journaling is perfect for novice and experienced artists because it's flexible, fun, and difficult to mess up!  Join me for a creative class where I'll walk you through your own art journal spread.  You'll learn about my process and favorite techniques to help you get your creativity flowing.  I'm a Ranger Ink junkie and have provided a list of the materials used, but you're welcome to bring what you have or use the items provided by My Heart's Fancy ($5 materials fee).  The shop will have many of the supplies available for sampling and purchasing.  You're going to love them!

February Classes

February 2018
Class Schedule!

Our new class schedule debuted on Saturday during Demo Day.  Lisa has really done a bang up job bringing you the best cards and projects ever.  She's responsible for Art Journaling Saturday in February too and I think it's stunning.  Chris Mack will be teaching her Paper Marbling class too and she has a few new tricks up her sleeve for this class.  Can't wait!

Our FREE Make 'n Take was created from stamps by Impression Obsession and everyone enjoyed making this beauty.

We used a card kit designed by Impression Obsession and after stamping the adorable images (created by Lindsay Ostrom!) we colored them in with Clean Color brush markers by Zig.  Awesome recipe for cute and perfect if you still need to write a few thank you notes for those Christmas presents.

We are having a Valentine Swap too and there are a few packets left.  You can run by any day this week to pick up one.  The swaps are soooo much fun!

Weekly Hours

New Store Hours

The times, they are a changin' as it has been said.....  and our store hours will be changing up a bit.  Some have asked for evening hours and we have been unofficially open late on Thusdays for several years.  Lisa and I have changing family obligations and need an extra hour here and there.  That being said, we will be testing a new set of store hours.  Here's what the schedule will look like for February and March.  If it works, we'll stick to it and if not, we'll go back to our original hours.

Beginning Tuesday, February 6

Tuesdays & Wednesdays
11 am to 5 pm

10 am to 8 pm

11 am to 5 pm

11 am to 4 pm

Demo Day Saturday
10 am to 4 pm

You can see that Demo Day and Class day hours will remain the same as they have always been.  Art Journaling Saturday will remain as it is (10 am session and 2 pm session).  We will continue to be closed to the public during Guest Artist workshops.

Adjustments in life are inevitable for everyone.  I hope this new schedule will not cause you any inconvenience.  I have always been willing to stay late for anyone and will continue to do so if you will just call and let me know you are on the way.

Thank you soooooo much for your continued support.  Lisa and I really appreciate each and every one of you.

See you soon and remember to .....

New Class

Two Things

Happy 2018!  It's a new year and we just finished the first week of it.  I have 2 things to share with you....  One, a quick and fun report on Art Journaling Saturday and Lisa's class addition to January.....

First things first....

Due the slow arrival of Valentine stamps and papers, Lisa was one class shy of a full schedule for January on Demo Day in December.  I am please to report that the last class of January is now on display and ready for enrollment.  This class is sooooooo wonderful...  Here are the details!

Valentines to "Die-cut" For
Thursday, January 25
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Take 2 parts Impression Obsession, 1 part Penny Black and 1 part Concord & 9th and what do you get?  Valentines to "die cut" for!  We discovered a little late in the season an fabulous border die set by Concord & 9th that will cut a wonderful envelope edge cut or make a load of different sized envelope cut border ribbons.  Add some stamps and basic paper and voila'! you have some very special and creative cards.  You will really enjoy the versatility of this die set and of course the heart image stamps by Impression Obsession combine well with sentiment stamps from Penny Black.

Enrollment is now open for this great class so be sure to call ASAP.

And the second thing is.....  Art Journaling Saturday.  I really stuck my neck out on the page creation for this one.  Abstract art isn't everyone's favorite but since art journaling is all about exploring and growing your art skills, I decided to jump in with both feet.  Lisa and I were joined by 23 brave souls as I shared my process to create this interesting art journal piece.

I did not take any pictures of what others created, but let me assure you the results were amazing.   If you are interested in joining us in the future, I hope you'll sign up when the next one rolls around in February.  It is an amazingly fun journey and I know you would have lots of fun.

That's it for now so until next post, remember to.....

January 2018

Classes for January 2018

I am so ready for 2018!  How about you?

New Valentine merchandise is slowly coming in so the class schedule is short a class or two.  Hang in there....  new paper is due in and Lisa should have the class schedule filled out by the 1st week of Jan.  I'll have a Part 2 posted as soon as she has them ready.

Our FREE Make 'n Take was this really cute "all occasion" card made using a stamps set and die by Concord and 9th.  We used Archival ink pads in Red Geranium, Vibrant Fuschia & Paradise Teal. The gold shimmer paper was the perfect accent for the petals that were cut out using the coordinating die.

And now..... on to Part 1 of the January Class Schedule!

Master Page Create - Valentines
Thursday, Jan 4th
10:30 am OR 6 pm

The Master Page series has been one of our most popular classes and here is the latest in the series..... The picture just doesn't do this class justice, but this is a fun and exciting class.  If you love creating your own background papers, this is the class for you.  AND there is a special project class 2 weeks later using a copy of your paper if you want to go even further.....

Art Journaling Saturday
Saturday, Jan 6th
10 am OR 3 pm
$15 materials fee

It's my turn to guide Art Journaling Saturday and I was feeling abstract. I have been drooling over paintings of a similar nature on Pinterest and decided I had to give it a try. I think this is one wild ride, but will be lots of fun to create.  This is one of those techniques that puts you in a "zen" place - eerily calming.  It did take a little bravery on my part to do it, but after I got started I really enjoyed the process.

Cute and Sassy Valentine Cards
Thursday, Jan 11
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Cute and Sassy says it all....  Rubber Moon stamps by Mindy Lacefield and Marylinn Kelly.  Paper by Simple Stories.  Let's get Sassy!  You're already cute!

Cherish Keepsake Box
Thursday, Jan 18th
10:30 am OR 6 pm
$30 (your paper)/ $35 (Lisa's paper)

This is the project class using the Master Page Create - Valentines paper made on the 4th.  Lisa has created a note card and a few flat cards that can hold photos to put into the box.  Use the paper you created or Lisa will provide a copy of hers for an additional $5.

Demo Day
Saturday, January 20
10 am to 4 pm
Come and Go

This is one of our most popular events.  We always have a FREE Make 'n Take that is worth the time and effort it takes to create.  Lisa will have her February class schedule to preview and you can begin enrolling immediately.  We usually have a nice variety of new products to browse and as always, it's fun to meet up with your crafting friends.  Grab a friend and join us for the fun!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of the class schedule... estimated to be on or about January 2nd!

Additional Class Details

Class Enrollment and Fee   Fees are due at the time of enrollment.  You may enroll in person, by email or through the website (after Jan 1st).  Fees can be paid by cash or check (credit card for Art Journaling Saturday) in person or Lisa will send a Paypal for her classes.
