Our good friend, Joanne Sharpe is coming back to teach 3 NEW classes.  That's right!  NEW classes.  Joanne recently taught these 3 new classes for the first time at Whim-so-doodle in St. Pete, FL to a sell out crowd.  I know there is a class here for you and if you are excited enough to take all three, there is an Earlybird discount of $15 when you sign up and pay by May 21st!  Without further ado, here is what Joanne will teach.....  Sample Boards ARE on display in the store.

ARTFUL ALPHABET SOUP

FRIDAY, JUNE 12

9 AM TO 1 PM

$70

Grow your lettering skills with this drawing and coloring workshop creating new, fun and funky hand drawn and painted letter forms and alphabets.  Joanne will teach you new methods, tips and techniques to design a full alphabet in class.  Take home sample handouts, knowledge and process ideas to inspire hundreds more!  We'll explore FIFTY alphabets and coloring techniques to create a finished inspirational art piece illustrating your favorite quote or verse.  Bring 2-3 of your favorite quotes to choose from for the project.  No drawing expertise required.  Joanne will give you the magic powers!

supplies needed:  Composition book (grid or ruled), glue stick, pencil, eraser, black permanent fine tip pens (Micron, Zig, or Pitt), colored pencils, waterbrush, watercolor pan sets, 4-5 acrylic paints in your favorite colors, white acrylic paint, 2-3 Dylusions paint, 9x12 Strathmore Bristol paper pad, round watercolor paintbrush (#2, 3 or 4).

SKETCH, PAINT AND DOODLE STITCH

FRIDAY, JUNE 12

3 PM TO 7 PM

Create your very own "sketchbook" masterpiece on fabric with colorful paints, dyes and doodle stitching with fibers.  Let loose making realistic, abstract or whimsical drawings of nature, landscapes and organic shapes with paint and dye on fabric.  The simple drawings of your own designs will be embellished with 6 basic embroidery stitches that add texture and dimension to this mixed media art piece.  Get into the "zen of threads" learning about the variety of decorative embroidery fibers while making a really special piece of art that combines several techniques.  Enjoy the stitching bliss in this totally relaxing art experience.  The finished piece can be transformed into a wall art piece, or sewn into a bag or pillow as a gorgeous focal image.  Joanne will have you in stitches in the art zone!

supplies needed:  Muslin fabric (1/2 yd prewashed natural color), assorted chenille needles set, 10-12 small skeins of DMC #8 or #5 perle cotton in your favorite colors, watercolor paint set and waterbrush, Dye-Na-Flow paints by Jacquard in magenta, turquoise and yellow, #8 round watercolor brush, 5" wood or plastic embroidery hoop for stitching, small embroidery scissors.  Instructor will provide some additional sample threads for student use.

POCKETS FULL OF POSIES AND PAINTINGS

SATURDAY, JUNE 13

9 AM TO 1 PM

Make mini art illustrations of your most inspiring quotes, words or scripture verses to tuck inside the pockets and compartments of your Project Life style pages.  Learn simple paint and collage techniques to create an entire album of little tiny art treasures.  This is the perfect art journaling process that will inspire, encourage and fill your creative appetite when you just have teeny bits of time to make art.  Explore and try "whimsical calligraphy", Joanne's italic calligraphy lettering with a playful twist and casual spin.  You'll leave class with at least 15 colorful art and lettering samples to fill your album pages.

supplies needed: Any size We R Memory Keepers album with 10 vinyl compartment pages (Project Life style), scissors, glue stick, Tombow markers and/or watercolor pan paints, waterbrush, Pilot parallel pen (orange cap - 2.4mm size) with black ink cartridges, several of your assorted tips and sizes of black permanent pens and markers, Signo white gel pen and a Strathmore Visual Journal - 90 lb watercolor (5x8 size).

SUPPLIES INFORMATION:  The supplies you need to bring to each class is listed above with the class descriptions.  Most supplies requested are or will be available at My Heart's Fancy.  I am currently trying to source some of the supplies to be "kitted" for the Sketch, Paint & Doodle Stitch class.  If I am able to do so, the price and supplies included in these kits will be available by May 15th.  If you are interested in the kit, please let me know when you enroll so I can get that information to you as soon as it is available.

 Explore Joanne's newly published book "The Art of Whimsical Lettering" and create a journal with her favorite lettering techniques.  This workshop will discover and embrace lettering ideas and samples while learning "artful lettering" style secrets using pens, marker and creative tools making a playful resource for lettering practice.  Focus on identifying your own distinct lettering preferences, composition and aesthetically pleasing pages.

Do you love the idea of making art with your favorite quotes and lettering?  Learn 12 playful lettering, illustration, design and composition techniques to showcase your favorite inspirations on colorful backgrounds in lively lettering styles.  Experiment with assorted pens, brushes, inks and paints to complete your masterpieces.  A strong emphasis will be on making stylized letter forms and focusing on the development of a signature look elaborating on your own personal handwriting.  In addition to creating small sampler paintings in your journal, you will finish and take home a completed 9x12 illustration ready for framing.

Student Supplies required:  Strathmore Visual Journal - Watercolor 90 lb paper in 5x8 size, favorite waterproof black ink pens in various tip sizes such as Pitt pens, Microns, Uniball or Zig, small watercolor set (Koi or Prang suggested), #4 & #8 ROUND watercolor brush, Niji waterbrush size medium, craft heat tool for drying work.

We had a great time Demo Day.  The crazy weather didn't keep us from enjoying the usual fun and my pups, Earl and Karma, enjoyed making a lot of new friends.  You won't normally find them around on Demo Day, so if you have dog issues, don't worry.  This was a rare occasion.

Simple Stencil Canvas Pair

Simple, yet elegant.  You will learn how to use a 12 x 12 stencil (stencil is yours to keep), modeling paste, paint & stamps to create a wonderful pair of canvases.  Lisa has used a very soft palate of blue/green, but you may use any color that will coordinate with your decor.

Swaps are fabulous as usual.....  Photos will be posted to Facebook tomorrow.  For those of you who participated, thanks!    Swaps will be ready for pick-up tomorrow (Wednesday, the 18th).

Demo Day

Demo Day is Saturday, weather permitting.  We have a lot planned.....  the usual FREE make-it-take-it, Lisa's January class schedule, FREE goodie bags to say "thank you for spending your hard earned dollars with us throughout the year" and SURPRISE.....  a Hero Preview Party!  We will have a good selection of the new 2014 stamps and a few catalogs (none for sale this year).  If the weather causes us to cancel, the back-up plan is to reschedule for New Year's Day....so be sure you plan to join us for all the fun.

The Holidays

We will be closed the week of Christmas through New Year's Eve.  To make a long story short, my husband and I are taking our mothers to Phoenix so that we can all have Christmas with our brothers and their families for the first time in nearly 30 years.   So here is how it will go through New Years Day.....
