A year or so ago I was studying the new Stampendous rubber stamp catalog and saw 3 new lucious "texture" stamp sets.  I had to order them right away as they were(are!) intriguing.  They were created from designs by Nathalie Kalbach (who is known simply as Nat) of N*Studio.  If you are unfamiliar with Nat, visit her blog/website N*Studio.  In addition to being an amazing mixed-media artist, she is a Liquitex Ambassador, organizer of Creative Jump Start, stencil designer for Stencil Girl, & stamp designer for Stampendous.

Monoprinting

Friday, MARCH 27

In this monoprinting class you will explore the possibilities of making your own personal mark in your artwork by creating wonderful prints with different tools, stamps, stencils & techniques.  

Learn how to create your own patterned paper which can later be used in art journals, collages, mixed media canvases and all other kinds of paper art.  You will need a Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate (available at My Heart's Fancy if you need one).  Whether you are a new or seasoned monoprinter, this is a great class for you!

Mixed Media Collage

In this one-day workshop, Nathalie will share her favorite techniques to create background papers using paints, stencils and stamps.    Layered up, it will turn into a fun Mixed Media Collage.  Create a whimsical or abstract focal point, depending on your taste.  

Nat will share her fun and easy peasy collage techniques, talk a bit about composition and make a sticky business turn into a creative new passion for you.

I am really looking forward to this group of workshops.  Nat brings a whole new style to mixed media and I can't wait to learn a whole new way of creating!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas.  With all the holiday happenings, the class photos didn't get taken til today and so the schedule is up just a little bit later than usual.  Forgive me.....  please.

Lisa had a lot more ready than she thought she would so we have a complete schedule for January.  It's bright and cheerful.  Kelley Walker returns with a wonderful portfolio project and Donna Downey will be here the last weekend of the month. (1 spot left in Donna's class....  see details here).

PERPETUAL CALENDAR BOOK

Please don't give up!  If the extra supplies arrive on time, we will have enough for 3 or 4 more people, so please put your name on the wait list.....  that being said, this Perpetual Calendar Book is just the thing for keeping up with the annual events in your life.  There is section for every month where you can write in the name/event and there is a pocket for the cards needed.  Beautiful Graphic 45 paper - "Time to Flourish" has been used to create this wonderful project.

How many times have you wanted to travel to an artist's studio to take a fabulous 2 day in depth class but had to pass because of the travel expenses?  Here is your chance to take an in depth workshop from one of the mixed-media masters without that burden.  Donna Downey is taking her "metamorphosis" Artbooking class on the road and we are one of the first stores to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.  You will be able to learn many exciting mixed-media techniques while creating this amazing fabric book.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

 “Metamorphosis”
mixed-­‐media fabric ARTbooking workshop

As the title suggests, this workshop is about transformation, the literal transformation of the medias and surfaces as we work in layers, but also the adaptations you as the Artist will bring and incorporate into your own pieces.

Using muslin fabric as your substrate, you will begin building structural layers by adding thin layers of joint compound and wet mediums giving your pages a textural, sculpted feel. In class I will work along with you modeling the processes and demonstrating how bendability and color can play into your overall designs. We will discuss “mark making” and use this skill as a means to incorporate each Artist’s own signature into their work and build upon that style by identifying the theme of your ARTbook using image transfers
.
By further understanding glazes and finishes your books transformation from fabric to ART will emerge, and lastly we will finish by binding your completed ARTbooking piece.

This is an "all-inclusive" event.  All supplies will be provided including a light lunch both days for the price of $425. This workshop will be limited to 20 students.  

ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN.  Enrollment must be made by email (maura@myheartsfancyok.com)  and will be on a first come first served basis.  If the class fills before you can enroll, I will add you to the wait list in the same first come first served basis.  I will confirm your enrollment within 1 business day (Sundays & Mondays excluded).  Class Fee &  Cancellation policy can be found below.

"Metamorphosis"  is one of Donna's newest classes.  She brings her working knowledge of materials and love of mixed-media to the table so you can experience the fun and excitement of mixed-media in all it's fullness.
 
I am excited to offer this new workshop concept to you.  Whether you are one of my local friends or one of my not-so-distant out-of town friends, this is an incredible opportunity.  Join Donna and me for this memorable journey in mixed-media. 

CLASS FEE POLICY:  Class fees can be made in person by check, credit card, or cash.  If you are unable to pay in person, fees can be billed via Paypal.  Fees must be paid within 2 business days of confirmation of enrollment.  Paypal payments must be made within 2 days of receipt.  Checks will be accepted by mail with prior approval and must be received within 5 days of approval.  Your seat will be given to the first person on the wait list if fees are not received within the allotted time.

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY:  There will be no refunds available for cancellations.  If for some reason you are unable to attend, you may give or sell your class to a friend (fees to be collected by you).  WAIT LIST EXCEPTION: If we have someone on our wait list who can take your place, we will collect the fees from them and your class fees will be refunded.

There has been a lot going on around here lately....  Demo Day is a monthly thing....  Guest teachers are becoming a regular adventure ....  and then there are swaps...

Our most recent swap adventure was the Santos Doll Swap.  Here's a collage of the results.... 

 You'll be able to see the individual photos later in the My Heart's Fancy Facebook photo albums.  There are also albums of other swaps we've done in the past.

Current Swap

We've got a Halloween Swap right now.  You can nab the photo below for info and the template if you want to participate.....

Just right-click on the photo & save it or print it full size.  It's cropped for 8-1/2 x 11 so it should print the correct size.  If it doesn't print out right, the tombstone is approximately 5" tall.  There are no rules, in general, but I do ask that you use Halloween as your theme and that you have fun.....  seriously, no requirements other than that.  Use whatever supplies you want and use whatever paper, card stock or cardboard you want (I like to use cereal boxes, cuz I have a plethora of those). 

If you're from out of town and want to participate, just mail your swaps to the store.  Email me for the mailing address and to let me know that they are on the way.  The deadline is Saturday, Sept 6th.  They will be ready for pick-up on Saturday, Sept 13 (I'll return out-of-town swaps by mail at my expense). 

Hope you'll join in one of our swaps.  We do them for most major holidays, and a few random ones here and there.....

Class Schedule

Ah! Demo Day!  It brings such fun and laughter.  This past Saturday was no different.  We laughed and enjoyed helping friends to create this stunning Halloween card for our Make-It-Take-It.  One of our best.... don't you think?

The class schedule for August is brimming with wonderful classes.  Lisa created a wonderful assortment of card classes and projects and Kelley Walker will repeat her "Gelli Print - Long Stitch" class by popular demand.  So without further ado....  here are the descriptions!

Botanical Tea Tag Book

Gelli Printing is all the rage right now!  It's so versatile and once you get started, it's so hard to stop.  Guaranteed fun and no two prints are alike!  Lisa taught this class in June and has been asked several times when she is going to do it again.... and it's now!  You will need a gelli plate.  Don't have one and not sure which size to get?  Fear not, Lisa will help you decide which size is best for you.  Then you can start having more fun than you ever imagined.

Die-Cut Extravaganza

Die cut cards are quite popular and this class will have you creating amazingly beautiful cards using layers of die-cut designs.  You will also make the beautiful box which will hold your cards in style from 2 pieces of 12x12 paper.  Your box will be adorned with a beautiful flower you will create using Tim Holtz's Jumbo Tattered Floral Die, glitter and more.  A wonderful gift... Lots of fun to make!

This two part class is an all day extravaganza.  Kelley taught this class a couple of weeks ago and it has gotten quite a lot of attention.  You'll print in the morning (no experience required) and after a quick lunch break return to learn a wonderful "long-stitch" style of book binding.  You can see what the students created in the last class on Kelley's blog "One January Day".  Class includes the use of a Gelli Plate if you don't have one, all paper and book making supplies as well as the use of Dina Wakley's new paints.

Kaisercraft has a great collection of organizers for your studio.  Lisa has chosen this desk organizer to assemble and decorate with papers from Tim Holtz's Wallflower Paper Collection.  You will absolutely love this piece.  You will need to purchase the organizer from the store.

Demo Day was a blast and the Make-It-Take-It was so quick there was almost no waiting.  Our good friend, Terri, the Sizzix rep manned the Demo Bar.  Everyone loved her and she had a great time.....  so THANKS! for making her feel so welcome AND a big Thank You to Terri for helping us out this month!

Lisa got to hang out at her sign-up table for the first time ever.  I think she had a good time and I know that everyone learned a great deal about the classes to come.  And now it's time to reveal the November schedule.....

This is an extraordinary class.  All supplies are provided except a heat tool, scissors & paper trimmer.  You'll take a deck of playing cards and begin creating what will become 52 encouragement cards, one for every week of the year.  You'll use distress inks, paint, paper, adhesives, tissue tapes and quotes.  These cards are for you or for sharing.....

Seriously.... you need only bring a pair of scissors.  And really, you don't need to know what you're doing.....  You'll doodle, you'll carve a stamp, you'll stamp and color your stamp on paper and muslin, and then you'll use your stamp to make a stitched creation.....  I promise this class is so multi-faceted, it'll make your head spin.  But, have no fear, Stephanie will guide you so you won't get lost.
