SEPTEMBER 2023

CLASS SCHEDULE

Are you ready for September???  I hope it cools down a bit.  Saturday was so hot and yesterday wasn't any better.  Forecast?  Still gonna be HOT!

I hope you made it to Preview Day Saturday, because we sold out of the Impression Obsession Halloween Limited Edition stamp set.  Here's the really cute card we made!

The stamp set is still available and Lisa is using it in a class on Sept 7, so if you missed out, we will have a few more sets coming in before the class.

Here's the September Schedule!

ATC Blizzard Book & Swap - $25
Thursday, August 31
10:30 am OR 6 pm

This class was designed around the August 24th Master Page Fun Class, but if you didn't take that class, you can bring an older master page or get a copy of Lisa's.  After you make the book, Lisa will hand out enough cards to fill your book.  It would be fun for you to decorate the ATC's to swap with your classmates later!  At least that's the plan!

Labor Day Weekend Holiday
Friday, Sept 1 - Monday Sept 4
closed

Yes, we're taking a little holiday.  You can probably figure out what I'll be doing if you know about "Chuck Wagon".  If you don't, I'll be happy to share - but only if asked (I don't want to bore you or be a bragger)

Time to Get Spooky - $35
Thursday, September 7
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Oh, my goodness..... The new Tim Holtz mica sprays are amazing!  Lisa has used them to create amazing backgrounds for cards using the Limited Edition Halloween Red Rubber Stamp set from Impression Obsession.  We used this stamp set for the Make 'n Take (shown earlier in this post) and we can still get them through this month. She has also used really fun embossing folders and embellishments that just make these cards so exciting!

This is Amazing Glaze! - $30
Thursday, September 14
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Ranger recently released another 12 embossing glazes for the Tim Holtz Distress collection.  We haven't used them in a while and Lisa is sharing some new techniques and ways to use them.  Technically, they are embossing powders, but they really are sooooo much more than that.  If you haven't had the pleasure of playing with the glazes, you should take this class.  It's a whole new world!

Preview Day - FREE
Saturday, September 16
10 am to 4 pm
Come and Go

Preview Lisa's October classes using many of the most recent products to arrive in the store. You can enroll in your favorites. Enjoy a FREE Make 'N Take and browse the new products.  Grab a friend and share the fun!

The 10 Cards of Christmas - $45
Thursday, September 21
10:30 am OR 6 pm

10 Cards?!?!  That's right and you'll make them all of them using just 2 pieces of 6x12 decorative scrapbook paper.  You'll receive a template so that you can continue to make other cards using this technique.  These have a Christmas theme, but notecards make a wonderful gift.  This technique makes creating them for your friends so quick and easy.

Open Studio - $25
Saturday, September 23
11 am to 3 pm

We're trying something new!  We had a different event planned for this weekend, but it fell through at the last minute.  So since neither Lisa nor I had an Art Journal page to teach, we decided (because someone once asked if we could) to offer a new concept we are calling Open Studio.  For the small fee of $25 you can use any (all) of the supplies we could use for Art Journal Saturday.  I have made an arrangement with Lisa to use her stencils and I'll bring a selection of my artsy stamps and ArtFoamies. Tables will be shared by 2 and I can guarantee a spot for 8 with the possibility of 10.  More details when you sign up for this exciting opportunity!

Create an Apron/Tote - $35
Thursday, September 28
10:30 am OR 6 pm

We've had requests for an apron class.  But we also know that many of you already have done one of our aprons.  Soooo.... with that in mind, you can choose to create on a tote.  We now have various colors of aprons (and they have pockets!!!) and will have a variety of tote bags available for you to purchase for your class project.  Lisa will provide all the paint, stencils, gesso and more!

That's it for September!  Here's a few more things you need to know.....

August 2023

Class Schedule

As usual, Preview Day was a blast!  Lisa was unable to join us so our friend Cherri manned the Make 'n Take desk.  It was only fitting as she designed the Make 'n Take card everyone enjoyed making.  Take a look!

It's a great card for any summer occasion.  Stamps by Hero Arts - Fiesta Blue Ink by Catherine Pooler - Jewels by Buttons Galore.

Lisa's August class schedule is outstanding.  I especially love the cards she created using the Art by Marlene "Crazy Bird" stamps.  There is a tabbed book that is designed to contain your ephemera bits and pieces and could even hold trip memorabilia instead if you wanted.  The first card class uses acrylic blocks to create unique but quick background shapes for cards (could use it for mixed media art too).  The return of Master Page on a new paper surface will make master pages useful for a whole new variety of projects.  She still has space for one more class, but that one will debut a little later in the month.  I am teaching Art Journal Saturday next month and we are going to create a version of a spread I did over a year ago that I really enjoyed making.

On to the schedule!.....

Acrylic Block Fun - $35
Thursday, Aug 3
10:30 am OR 6 pm

It's been quite some time since Lisa first taught the acrylic block technique for backgrounds.  There are so many more products she wanted to show you how to use with this technique.  Distress Ink has been the preferred method (and you'll do one with them), but she has added acrylic paints, TCW Color Sparks and more.  This process makes it easy to create a large number of backgrounds (or collage background).  You'll love this technique

Ephemera Tab Binding Book - $35
Thursday, Aug 10
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Create this fun book to hold your scrapbook/art ephemera.  There are pockets to hold paper dolls, tiny drawings, postage stamps, scraps or anything else you might use on your scrapbook page or cards that use collage elements.  The binding is unique and you'll love how easy it goes together.  Can't wait to make this one myself!

Crazy Fun Birds - $35
Thursday, Aug 17
10:30 am OR 6 pm

We discovered this "Art by Marlene" Crazy Birds stamp set thanks to our friend, Becky Bright.  She loves birds, saw this set and asked if we could order it for her.   I ordered 3.  One for her and 2 for the shelf.  I sold the other 2 immediately.  These cards are bright and cheeful and use a number of embossing folders, and die cut openings.  I can't imagine anyone not liking these cards.....

Preview Day - FREE
Saturday, August 19
10 am TO  4 pm

Come preview the August classes, enroll and enjoy a FREE Make 'n Take.  You can browse the newest products in the shop.  Grab a friend and share the fun!

Master Page Fun - $35
Thursday, August 24
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Master pages never get old.  This time Lisa uses a new surface that is more flexible.  You can cut it up for collage or card backgrounds or photocopy it and use it over and over again.  Lisa provides everything you need for this class.

Art Journal Saturday - $20
Saturday, August 26
10:30 am OR 6 pm

It's been a little crazy and time ran out for me this month.  I found this tiny journal spread I did a bit more than a year ago.  I loved it so much I wanted to revisit the techniques. I am going to create a larger sample so you'll be able to see how to make it in a larger journal. We'll use alcohol ink in a unique way.  You can use a personal photo or I will have the Tim Holtz Snapshots ephemera photos available for your use if you don't have a photo you want to use.

Class to Come
Thursday, August 31
10:30 am OR 6pm

Art Journal Saturday

June 2023

I mostly blog the class schedules, but I today I wanted to share a bit about our Art Journal Saturday classes.

Lisa and I enjoy Art Journal Saturday (AJS) every time we offer it.  It's fun and we learn so much from each other.  Our art gets better and better every time we teach it and our students are amazing.  The best part is that experience matters not.  The sample spread can be copied almost to the tiniest detail which allows the inexperienced to learn about how products work and as they learn, they begin to create their own amazing art.

Another thing I love about AJS is how our card making students begin to relax when creating cards.  They become more adventurous and when they make an "oops! oh well!" they find a way to change it to incorporate their "mistake" into a part of their designs.

I thought I would share a few pictures from last Saturday's AJS.

Lisa demonstrating one of the techniques she used in her sample.

A few "candid" shots of the classroom and a work in progress.

Some of the finished work below!

I'd like to invite you to join us for AJS in the future.  It's only $20 and you need only bring a basic kit and your art journal or surface to work on.  We provide all the art products, stamps, and stencils...

Dina Wakley will be here in 2 weeks so we won't have AJS during July, but we'll start back up in August!  I hope you'll join us.  It's the best $20 you'll spend to learn art journaling and play with someone else's supplies!

Hope to see you soon!

Class Schedule

Summer is here!  I hope all the Dads in your life had a great Father's Day celebration.  We had a great time on Saturday during Preview Day.  It was a bit quieter than normal, but we visited with friends and made this "poppin" cute gift card holder!

Stamps and dies are from Catherine Pooler and we used Rockin' Red, Midnight & Whipped Honey Catherine Pooler inks.  It really is a fun gift card holder and it fits perfectly in an A2 envelope.

July 2023 Class Schedule

"Stylin" Cards - $30
Thursday, July 13th
10:30 am OR 6 pm

One of our most popular Penny Black rubber stamps is a girl in a striped shirt with a Parisian beanie hat holding a big cup of latte.  It's called Love Ya.  When I was putting a Penny Black order together last month I ran across these 3 girls and thought to myself, "Lisa should do a class using this set of girls since the other has been so popular".  Apparently she agreed!  There is lots of bling on these cards including shimmering watercolors and glitter glue.  You could add more, of course, but I think Lisa has struck the perfect balance.  What do you think? (Take the class!, of course).

Preview Day - FREE
Saturday, July 15
10 am to 4 pm - Come and Go

If you've been around for a while, you know this event occurs the 3rd Saturday of every month.  It's at the end of the second week this month, so be sure you make a mental note of that.  It's easy to miss when it happens so early in the month.  Anyway.....  it's fun.  You get to enjoy a FREE Make 'n Take, browse newly arrived products AND sign up for the classes for August!  Grab a friend and share the fun.

"Shake It Up" Cards - $35
Thursday, July 20
10:30 am OR  6 pm

Lisa has learned a new technique for making shaker cards.  You'll be making a lot of these because they are so very different from the usual shakers....  You get to put the glitter/shaker elements in a variety of different places for very unique shaker cards.  Come learn how to use cover dies to make these shakers!

All Occasion Cards - $35
Thursday, July 27
10:30 am OR 6 pm

These cards are so beautiful.  You'll use a variety of techniques and supplies to create some one of a kind cards.  I promise you'll love making each and every one of them.  There are 2 collage style cards, 1 easel card and one unique card combining stencil work and stamps.  Each and every one of them can be sent to any number of your friends for any number of reasons - hence the name "all occasion"!

Art Journal Saturday - $20

Art Journal Saturday will be back next month.  Dina Wakley took the place of this fabulous class earlier in the month.  But never fear, we love this class so much and apparently so do you as it is always nearly full and rightly so. We won't disappoint you, so be sure to watch for it's return in August!

JUNE 2023
CLASSES

We always have a grrrrrreat time on Preview Day.  I must say, that with all the graduation ceremonies and other hooplah going on, we were quiet.  That means that there was not much waiting for the Make 'n Take.  Sooooo.... I am making an offer you may not be able to resist.  If you were unable to come by on Saturday, drop by the store on Tuesday or Wednesday and I'll let you make one!  This is a one time offer and not likely to be repeated.  I just hate to see the supplies go to waste and would love for you to make one!

I love this stamp set called "Feelin' Fizzy" by Catherine Pooler.  It's from one of her newest releases.  We sold out, but I will be ordering more because the set is great for many occasions, not just Father's Day.  And here are 2 other samples Cherri made for us.....

Dina Wakley is coming to teach in July.  Although the classes are full at this time, please feel free to register in order to get your name on the wait list for cancellations.  I am also trying to add 4 more seats so registering may help you get in ahead of a cancellation.  You can find more information about the classes HERE.  To register for the wait list, please see the My Heart's Fancy website HERE.

Lisa has a class schedule filled with beautiful cards, a gel print class making fancy tapes, and she's the teacher for Art Journal Saturday in June.  Here's the schedule!

Mixed Media Cards - $35
Thursday, June 1st
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Tim Holtz released a new group of stamp sets last month and Lisa has created these 4 cards using them for focal images.  But the coolest part of this class is creating the really cool backgrounds by making 1 mixed media "master page" to cut up for the background of each card.  This will be a fun and classy card class!

Experiments in Gel Printing - $35
Thursday, June 8
10:30 am OR 6 pm

Lisa did not have the samples ready to show for this class, but I can tell you that she is going to teach you how to create your own washi type strips that can be used for card making or collage projects both in and out of your art journal.  Don't miss this class.  It will truly be a fantastic experience and you don't need any experience using the gel plate.

Preview Day
Saturday, June 17
10 am to 4 pm
Come and Go
FREE

If you've been a part of our art family for a while, you know this is a special event every month.  We offer a FREE Make 'n Take and Lisa shows her classes for the next month.  We usually have brand new art supplies for you to see and buy or a special sale.  Grab a friend and share all the fun!

"Bee Happy" Pockets - $35
Thursday, June 22
10:30 am OR 6 pm

I promise you'll find a plethora of uses for these very cute pocket cards.  Not a typical card, these pockets cards can hold encouragement cards, tea bags, gift cards and more.  They would make great party favors as well!

Art Journal Saturday - $20
Saturday, June 24
9 am OR 1:30 pm

Lisa created this "dreamy" spread and I can't wait to make my very own version.  She has this ethereal style that always takes my breath away.  While she has used soft tones and muting techniques, you can make yours bold or quiet.  She'll guide us through her process and we'll have fun making our own versions.  You know that your $20 class fee is a bargain because you get so much bang for your buck!

Embossing Folder Fun - $35
Thursday, June 29
10:30 am OR 6 pm

New embossing folders from Altenew sparked this class.  You'll have fun creating these very different cards.  New dies from Hero, Catherine Pooler, and Impression Obsession complete the cards with style.  You will make all 5 cards in this class and love how easy they are to make.

Dina Wakley Returns

DINA WAKLEY
WORKSHOPS

JULY 7 & 8, 2023

I am so excited to announce that Dina Wakley is returning to teach a wonderful weekend workshop on July 7 & 8.  It has been such a long time since we have had a guest artist and I am thrilled that she is our first since the world went haywire!

Most of you know Dina.  She is a mixed-media artist and teacher.  She travels all over the world teaching her unique style of art and art journaling.  As a Ranger signature artist, she has a variety of products that were created to express her unique style.  I am pleased to say she was teaching here long before she joined Ranger as a Signature Designer.

Here are the classes being offered!

Please note that the photos shown for each class are only representations of the work you will do and your work will not match these photos.

DINA'S WORKSHOPS

Seeing Clearly
$80

Let's make art that is chock full of interesting "clear" elements - tranparencies!  Dina will show you some of her favorite ways to create with transparencies.

Ditch the Brayer
$80
July 8
10 am to 1 pm

Gel Printing has been around a number of years, but this isn't your standard printing class.  Here we use the gel plate in ways that result in very unique prints and effects.  Think grunge, graffiti, raw.  We will use many mediums (Gloss sprays, Scribble Sticks, etc) on the plate, not just acylic paint.  You'll be amazed at your results.

Yes, You Can Draw Faces
$80
Friday (Saturday) July 7 (8)
2:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Dina says she is not someone who has an innate drawing gift.  All of her drawing comes out of technique and practice.  This class is a great start to your drawing life.  We'll go over proportion and features.  You'll also learn how to mix skin tone colors and paint faces with acrylic.  You don't need talent, just a desire to learn.  This class is suited for those with little to no prior drawing experience but those who have taken this class or have experience may find it is a great refresher course.

May 2023 Classes

We had a lovely time on Saturday during Preview Day.  It was quiet and there was almost no wait time for the FREE Make 'n Take.  Take a look!

The stamps, dies and ink colors are all from Catherine Pooler.  The printed paper is by Echo Park and was part of their Valentine collection (we sold ALL of it too!).

Lisa's class schedule is incredible.  It has two classes of beautiful cards.  She has really outdone herself this time.  I am sure you'll want to take both of those.  We have some fun mixed media classes as well.  Without further ado.... here's the schedule!

1 Stamp 3 Ways - $35
Thursday, May 4
10:30 am OR 6 pm

These cards are the sweetest and I am in love with them.  Soft floral colors are applied using Tombo Markers or Distress Ink Pads.  They are suitable for a variety of occasions including Mother's Day (and just in time, I might add!).  Be sure to sign up soon as I am sure this class will fill fast!
Master Page Canvas - $30
SUNDAY, May 7
2 pm

Last month's Master Page Create provides the paper for this creative canvas which is perfect for a gift or home decoration for your house.  If you didn't take the Master Page class, don't fret.  Lisa will provide a copy of hers for a small $5 fee.  If you have other Master Pages you want to use, feel free to bring one of those instead.

Fresh & Fancy Cards - $35
Thursday, May 11
10:30 am OR 6 pm

PinkFresh Studio has a new batch of stamps and dies that make the most creative cards ever!  The circle and/or arch sets will give you a fresh new look that will have you making so many more.  These cards are also perfect for many occasions.

Art Journal Saturday - $20
Saturday, May 13
9 am OR 1:30 pm

You know Lisa and I love art journaling.  We love sharing with you the ideas we use and know you'll enjoy being guided through the process that was used.  This month we will be playing with The Crafter's Workshop Stencil Butters.  We will be applying them 3 different ways.  It's fun and the pages will have a lovely shimmer.  You bring the journal and a few basic supplies and we provide everything else we used.  This class is a bargain and one of our most popular.

Tim Holtz Reliquary Dome Creation - $35
The Repeat Performance
Thursday, May 18
10:30 am OR 6 pm

For those who wanted to take this class but couldn't (or we didn't have enough domes for), here's the "repeat performance"!  Those who were able to catch the first time around made the cutest domes.  You get to "make it your own" by using a photo(s) of yours along with all kinds of Lisa's ephemera.  Once you've made one, you just might want to make more for the family.
